About us
Sun Sugar Glass was born from our desire to expand beyond making blown glass memorials and explore a wider range of creative glasswork. In addition to our memorial pieces, we now craft hand-blown drinking glasses, vases, bowls, and sculptural art.
The name Sun Sugar Glass was inspired by our local roots, Nevada City’s vibrant farmers market, and by Robert’s favorite tomato variety, the Sun Sugar. What began in 2024 as a playful side project for Robert, our co-owner and lead glassblower, quickly grew into something more. He wanted space to experiment, have fun, and bring fresh ideas to life in glass.
Alongside Robert is his wife, Sunny, who brings her creative vision to the studio and keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes—managing customer service, shipping, and operations. She also occasionally assists in the hot shop, lending a hand in the glassblowing process.
We’re also lucky to have Nicole on our team—a talented assistant who works closely with Robert in creating many of the pieces you see in our collection. Her skill and energy are an essential part of what makes Sun Sugar Glass special.
We first brought our new work to the Nevada City Farmers Market just to see how it would be received—and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Encouraged by the support, we decided to grow the project into a full-fledged venture.
Today, we continue to share our evolving collection at the farmers market and here through our website. Thanks for being part of our journey.
